Julia
Fullerton-Batten was born in Bremen from an English and
German family. She was very young when her family moved to the US
where she graduated at the Berkshire College of Art & Design. She is an amazing contemporary artist.
At
school-leaving age she decided to enter a career in photography. She
has not looked back since. Julia gets inspiration for her personal
work through her observations of everyday life as well as her love
for art, cinema, and awareness of current sociological trends. She
has also found that, subconsciously, much of the subject matter
echoes memories from her own childhood.
"I
grew up in a small town in Germany, and I remember male friends of
mine turning up unannounced at the house. Then we would go sit in my
room, but we never really knew what to say. There was always that
uncomfortable silence. I visualised this idea in other projects
already, but in Awkward I wanted to give special attention to feeling
so uncomfortable around boys as a teenager."
