Robbie Augspurger was born in Peoria, IL in 1977, and currently lives in Portland, OR. He got his first camera for his twelfth birthday, held at Showbiz Pizza Place, where there were animatronic animals wearing suits and playing in a band. He didn’t immortalize that rare vision on film that night, but ever since he can remember, he was interested in taking pictures.
His photos aren’t from another era; he is a photographer of the bizarre, creating characters that might have been photographed in some desolate town’s Sears Portrait Studio in the 1970s.
It all started when he purchased an old light kit. He recalled the days of working in a portrait studio and thought he would try to re-create some of that “awesomely good” portraiture, taking it to a new level. Some of his current projects include “Glamour & Headshots,” “Il mio Capo è il tuo Capo,” and “Mall Art.” He is also a founding member of the Portland, OR-based multimedia art collective Wolf Choir.
